Strengths FAQs

How do I take the assessment?

If you are a WVU student, faculty or staff member, assessments are free through the WVU Purpose Center. You can email purpose@mail.wvu.edu to request a code.

Who will see my results?

Your Strengths data is protected through the Gallup platform and your SSO login. No one will see your results outside of your consent. If you have taken your strengths via the WVU Platform, those who manage the technical aspects of the platforms are the only ones with access to results and only access them at your request to help you troubleshoot an issue. Otherwise, anytime you participate in a team session, the group leader is required to get consent from participants before sharing a team grid or having access to the strengths others. If you take your assessment through the Gallup access platform, similarly only tech support will have access to your results.

Why does WVU use CliftonStrengths®?

WVU sees CliftonStrengths® as a tool on the journey for purpose. Knowing your strengths can help you build more self-awareness and put effective strategies in place to build stronger essential skills and show up for yourself and others in more effective ways. Purpose is your why, strengths can be part of the how. Additionally, research shows that students who use their strengths every day are much more likely to thrive in their wellbeing.

What should I do after I take my assessment?

After you take your assessment, go through your report and take note of or highlight words and phrases you really resonate with in the descriptions. Begin reflecting on where you see your strengths show up each day. Schedule a 1-on-1 coaching session or attend a Strengths 101 session to dig deeper into your results. After you have a good understanding of your strengths, continue to attend strengths workshops to better understand how to leverage them in different areas.

What if I took my assessment and forgot my results?

If you’ve experienced a major life change and feel like you need to retake your assessment, you can email purpose@mail.wvu.edu for more information.
